Check your Verizon internet speed

Works with Verizon Fios and 5G Home Internet and any other Verizon connection. Run the test and see how your real speed compares with your plan.

  • Download speed

The main number on your Verizon plan. It tells you how quickly pages, videos and files reach your device.

  • Upload speed

How fast you can send things out. It matters for video calls, sending large files and working from home.

  • Ping

The delay between your device and the internet, in milliseconds. Lower numbers feel faster and are better for calls and games.

  • Jitter

How much the delay changes. A steady connection has low jitter. A line that keeps changing causes choppy calls.

  • Ping under load

Ping while the line is in use. If it shoots up, other devices on your Verizon connection are slowing everything down.

  • Plain ratings

See at a glance whether your Verizon speed is good for streaming, gaming and video calls.

  • Your Verizon connection

Check your IP address and provider name to confirm you are testing over Verizon.

  • Any device

Test from your phone, tablet or computer. It is free and there is nothing to sign up for.

Verizon internet slow or dropping? Check these

Verizon problems usually come from the line, the router or the Wi-Fi in your home. Start with the quick checks and then match your problem below.

Quick checks

  • Look at the lights on your Verizon router. Note any that are red, off or blinking.
  • Check that the cables are tight and not bent or damaged.
  • Connect a laptop with an Ethernet cable if you can.
  • Restart the router: unplug it for two minutes, then plug it back in.
  • Pause downloads and streaming on other devices.
  • Run the test a few times and write down the results.

Speed is lower than my Verizon plan

Your line and your Wi-Fi both affect the result. A cable test shows what the line delivers without Wi-Fi in the way.

  1. Test with a cable and compare the number with your plan.
  2. If the cable result is good, the problem is your Wi-Fi. Move closer or move the router to a central spot.
  3. If the cable result is still low, note down a few results and contact Verizon support or use the My Verizon app.

My plan speed depends on the line at my address

Verizon serves homes with different connection types, such as fibre, copper or wireless, and each has a different top speed.

  1. Check which connection type your plan uses in your account or on your bill.
  2. Compare your result with the speed listed for that type, not just the headline number.
  3. If a faster type is available at your address, ask Verizon about upgrading.

The connection drops again and again

Repeated drops usually point to the line, the cable or the router.

  1. Check the router lights when it drops. A red or off light means the line signal is lost.
  2. Look for damage along the cable you can see, and for loose connectors.
  3. Restart the router and check whether it reconnects.
  4. If it keeps dropping, report a fault to Verizon support or use the My Verizon app and mention which light was on.

Wi-Fi is weak in other rooms

One router may not cover the whole home. The 2.4 GHz band reaches further but is slower and busier.

  1. Move the router to the middle of your home and off the floor.
  2. Test in each room and see where speed drops.
  3. Add a mesh system or a second access point for the far rooms.

Video calls and games lag

High ping or jitter, especially under load, causes lag even when the speed number looks fine.

  1. Run the test and look at ping, jitter and ping under load.
  2. Pause large uploads and cloud backups, then test again.
  3. Use a cable for calls and games where you can.
  4. Restart the router and turn on its traffic priority setting if it has one.

The test freezes or will not finish

The connection may have dropped, or something on your device is blocking the test.

  1. Open another website. If it does not load, restart the router.
  2. Turn off any VPN or ad blocker and try again.
  3. Try on mobile data to see whether the problem is your Verizon line.

FAQs

How do I check my Verizon internet speed?

Press Start test and wait about a minute. Close other apps first and use a cable if you can. Then compare the download and upload numbers with the speed on your Verizon plan.

Why is my Verizon speed lower than my plan?

The plan speed is the best case. The connection type at your address, Wi-Fi and how busy the network is can all lower it. A cable test helps you find which one it is.

Does this test work with Verizon Fios or 5G Home Internet?

Yes. The test measures whatever connection your device is using, so it works with Verizon Fios and 5G Home Internet and any other Verizon connection.

What should I do if my Verizon internet is not working at all?

Restart the router and check the lights and cables. If a light is red or off, or the internet is still down after a restart, contact Verizon support or use the My Verizon app.

What is a good ping on Verizon?

Under 30 ms is very good, 30 to 80 ms is fine for most things, and above 100 ms is noticeable in calls and games.

Is this test made by Verizon?

No. This is an independent speed test and is not connected to Verizon. Verizon is a trademark of its owner. We only use the name to help you check Verizon connections.
