1.The short version
- There are no accounts, no sign-up and no advertising on this site.
- Your speed, latency and jitter results are calculated in your browser and shown on your screen. We do not receive them and we do not keep them.
- We do not set cookies. The only thing saved on your device is your light or dark theme choice.
- We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, a cookie-free tool. We do not sell personal data or share it for advertising.
- The test itself talks directly to Cloudflare’s speed test servers, so Cloudflare sees your IP address. Section 3 explains exactly what happens.
2.Who is responsible for your data
WiFi Speed Test (“we”, “us”) operates this website and decides how the personal data described here is used, which makes us the data controller for that processing. Where Cloudflare receives data directly from your browser during a test, Cloudflare acts as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
This policy covers the website and all of its language versions. It does not cover other websites you reach through links.
3.What happens when you run a test
A speed test cannot work without a remote server, so your browser connects directly to Cloudflare’s public speed test service at speed.cloudflare.com. Our servers are not in that path. In order:
- When the page opens. The page asks Cloudflare’s
/metaendpoint which connection you are on. Cloudflare replies with your public IP address, the network (internet provider) that owns it, the Cloudflare data center serving you, and your approximate city, region and country. We show these in the Connection details panel. This request is made as soon as the page loads, before you press Start. - Latency. The browser sends a series of very small requests to measure round-trip time and jitter.
- Download, about 10 seconds. The browser downloads random data from Cloudflare over several parallel connections and counts the bytes it receives.
- Upload, about 10 seconds. The browser sends random data to Cloudflare the same way. It is meaningless filler generated in your browser. No files, contents or personal data from your device are uploaded.
The speed, latency and jitter values are computed locally in your browser from that traffic. They live only in the page’s memory and disappear when you reload or close the page. Our own servers never see them.
Because these requests go to Cloudflare, Cloudflare receives your IP address and standard request details such as your browser type, as any website you visit would. How Cloudflare handles that is described in Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy. We send these requests without credentials, so they do not carry cookies from other sites.
The Connection details panel also shows your connection type (for example “4g” or “wifi”) where your browser exposes it through its built-in Network Information API. That value is read on your device and is not sent to us.
4.Information collected when you visit
Separately from the test, running any website produces some records. These come from our hosting and analytics provider, Vercel Inc.
- Server and security logs. When your browser requests a page, the hosting platform processes your IP address, the requested address, the date and time, the referring page, and browser and device details (the user agent). These are used to deliver the page, keep the service secure, and investigate abuse and outages.
- Visit statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to learn how many people visit and which pages they use. It records the page address, referrer, country, browser, operating system and device type. It uses no cookies and, according to Vercel, it does not store your IP address or follow you across different websites.
We do not run advertising trackers, social media pixels or session-replay tools, and we do not build profiles of individual visitors. We do not ask for your name, email address or any identity details, and no feature of the site requires them. If you email us, we receive what you choose to send and use it only to reply.
5.Information stored on your device
We do not set cookies. When you use the theme toggle, your choice (light, dark or system) is saved in your browser’s local storage under the key theme, so the site looks the same next time. Your language is part of the web address and is not stored anywhere. The Cookie & Storage Policy has the full list.
6.Why we use data, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Data involved | Legal basis (GDPR / UK GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Delivering the website and running the speed test | IP address and request details, processed by our host and by Cloudflare during a test | Performance of the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b)) and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Security, abuse prevention and reliability | Server logs | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the service safe and available |
| Understanding usage and improving the site | Cookie-free visit statistics | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in improving the service using minimal data |
| Remembering your theme choice | The theme value in local storage | Your own action in choosing a theme, limited to the preference you set |
| Answering messages you send us | Your email address and message | Steps at your request, and legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
8.International transfers and retention
Vercel and Cloudflare operate worldwide, so data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Speed, latency and jitter results | Not stored. They disappear when you close or reload the page. |
| Hosting and security logs | Held by the hosting provider on its own schedule. We do not keep separate copies. |
| Visit statistics | Held in aggregated form by the analytics provider. We do not export them or link them to individuals. |
| Theme preference | In your browser until you clear site data. |
| Emails you send us | Only as long as needed to answer you and handle any follow-up, then deleted. |
9.Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask whether we process personal data about you and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected, or data erased;
- restrict how we use your data, or receive it in a portable format;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent wherever consent is the basis;
- complain to your data protection authority, such as the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos in Spain or the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom.
California and other US states. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA/CPRA and similar laws, so there is nothing to opt out of. You can still ask what we hold about you or ask us to delete it, and we will not treat you differently for making a request.
A practical note. We keep no results, accounts or profiles, so for most visitors there is very little to look up. Server logs sit with our hosting provider and are not searchable by person on our side, so we may ask for details such as the approximate time and your IP address to locate anything.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We do not track you across sites, so these signals change nothing: the behavior they request is already how the site works.
10.Children
This site is a general utility and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11.Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Because there are no accounts, user databases or uploads, there is very little stored data to protect, which is deliberate. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12.Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision. If a change materially affects how your data is used, we will point it out on the site before it takes effect.
13.Contact
To ask a question about this document or to make a privacy request, contact the operator of this site.
